for my gnomies (11/2021)

Mom's 2021 ornament:

"Merry Christmas to my favorite 'gnomies', I kinda love the idea of a mythical creature protecting the treasures of the earth and gathered these pinecones from my very own hallowed ground at Lake Z. My ornaments quite literally come from my gnome to yours. I truly love each and every one of you! There is gnome one like my Laveen ladies!"

A Twin thanks (11/2021)

The one Thanksgiving we traveled was such a rare delight. This is the one -  when Dave and I (pre-kids) traveled to Seattle with the Parrys and ate a proper turkey dinner at the mall's buffet. (Followed of course by a tour of the Underground and Pike's Place.)

I have wanted to use that 4 day weekend for traveling ever since. This year,  I convinced my brother and parents to meet up in the twin cities for a Golden corral dinner and a hotel swim afterwards. It was a relaxing way to get all the fixings and have some family fun. But the main attraction was the Mall of America for Black Friday! Blaine and Margett were the perfect company for this trip - planning the ins and outs of mixing shopping with park rides. While we did do less than glamorous visits to IKEA & a cherry-less spoon at the famous outdoor sculpture, it was a great trip! On the way home, we snuck in a tour of Paisley Park which was originally for mom but dolly endorsed it as the best part of the trip.

mom's recipe for relaxation (2018)

There are 2 key ingredients to mom's relaxation:
- vitamin D (mom seeks the sun wherever she can find it - carpet included.)

- sitting on mom's back is strangely comfortable (Even book reading on a nook is welcome - no massage required.)

Heck, throw in a little Billy Joel and mom's in heaven!

mama in the cold (2019)

Momma likes a warm climate. I typically sit like a basking lizard and can be a big baby when it comes to the cold and cold weather activities. But every once in a while, I'll tolerate a sledding hill or ice rink for a bit.

Jack is also a warm weather dweller but doesn't let the cold get in the way.

the onion consequence (5/2018)

No one remembers the specific circumstances behind the need for a creative solution but we won't forgot the resolute reaction Jack gave. Without even the slightest grimace, he chomped bite after bite from the onion with a show of total defiance.

Omaha loves independence (2017)

Stover Dad and Stover Mom adore the 4th of July. After all, it's part of our love story. But Omaha really loves the 4th. This city does the fourth like no other and we have friends with pretty great traditions to make it even better. The Applegarths start the day with a breakfast and carnival. And the Cleggs host a giant slip and slide, barbeque, and a giant fireworks display.

No one would argue that Omaha does fireworks in a fierce way. Every night for a month surrounding the 4th, a snapshot of our house looks like this.

And there are commercial sized displays on every corner! Every year, we get to see a particularly epic (and expensive) display which requires goggle protection and includes 5-6 firework boards.

my knight without armor (12/2017)

Our house has an awkward entry - a tiny space with very tall ceilings. That is, until my knight without armor stepped into a dangerous project. Extending the ladder to its full extent and reaching beyond that was scary to watch and worse for the knight. I was entirely too panicked when he installed the chandelier to snap a pic. Despite it being unpictured, I love our new, finished entry!

she sings and dances (2019)

Dalia has wandered around singing vibrato and humming at her school desk for years. I felt she'd really enjoy singing lessons and found a high school senior to coach her through music and she really took to it.  singing is a truly a talent for her. The culmination of her lessons was a solo in sacrament meeting. She did an amazing job with a strong stage presence, earning accolades by music professionals and the musically inclined.

We've since been searching for opportunities to sing on-stage and gave her a taste of show choir:

...she loved it!
